Major Activities and Achivements

The Adivasi Mahila Utkarsh Samiti (AMUS) Ahwa is a social organization registered under the Trust Act. Through different Center and Mandals. the AMUS has been carrying out awareness programmes among the Women of Ahwa Dangs and Uchal Tal. of Surat. The following is a brief report of the activities of AMUS. (1) HEALTH SECTOR :- The AMUS has provided free services to the Physically and mentally challenged persons and others affected by various type of illness. The lions Club ahwa had co-operated with AMUS in these programmes. In Ahwa village, a medical camp was conducted wherein 210 patients were treated. 125 persons were given free spectacles after check-up and another 125 persons were operated upon. (2) EDUCATION SECTOR :- The AMUS has been running Bal-Mandirs wherein around 256 children are attending the classes. The AMUS is trying to extend the scope of education to cover more children. The youth in charge of these activities have been provided with guidelines. A Library has been set-up to encourage reading habits amongst students. (3) AWARENESS AMONG WOMEN :- The AMUS has been creating awareness amongst women regarding agriculture Practices, health, legal rights issues. Shibirs were held in Sivbara Villages. Around 50 women had benefited from this. The AMUS has started programmes for women and children’s education. (4) VOCATIONAL TRAINING :- The AMUS has conducted training programme in the manufacturing of agarbati, bamboo-handy crafts, candles etc p for women. Around 120 educated / unemployed women have benefited from this. The AMUS has also helped rehabilitate the physically challenged persons through vocational training. (5) TRIBAL CULTURE, ARTS, HISTORY, LITERATURS :- The AMUS has been trying to revive and Preserve the history of Dangs, especially of the Bhil. Kings role in pre- 1947 movement available in the Oral traditions. Attempts are on to give a written shape to the same. The AMUS has been conducting programmes through drama and folk- arts to create awareness among the people. And for this, it has got registration with the PUNE Drama and Folk Arts Division. The AMUS has also published a number of book lets and leaflets on history, culture and customs of the Dang tribal The AMUS has been coordinating these activities with the Tribal Research Center, Ahwa. (6) RECREATION/SPORTS SECTOR :- The AMUS has organized Cricket, Kabbadi, Kho-kho, Volleyball and Archery tournaments in which large number of youth, male and female have been participating. To wards this end, the AMUS has set up Eklavya Centers in 15 Villages of Dangs. Trekking camps for youth were organized in Saputara and Mahal forests. (7) NATIONAL PROGRAMMES :- The AMUS has organized self-help group to create saving habits. It has held shibirs and campaigns on mushroom cultivation, health awareness. AIDS, Polio and Family Planning issues. (8) EMPLOYMENT & INDUSTRY :- The AMUS has been running a Mahila press in Ahwa Dangs wherein 11 women and men are employed. This branch disburses payment to the Rs. 1 Lakh Twelve Thousand Five Hundred every year. The yearly profits is around Rupees 74,832 /-
