MAJOR ACTIVITIES / ACHIEVEMENTS : At the beginning, Akabpur Sammelani, the organisation mainly concentrated on, as how to create an infrastructure / a platform from which the organisation will extend the opportunities of building moral and character of the people and help to uplift the socio-economic and welfare conditions of the poor farming communities irrespective to caste, creed and colour. Development of sports & games, extending the facilities of amusement and nourishment of cultural thinkings were also in the list. It is needless to mention here that it is due to these solid footing and very grass-root level activities the organisation has been able to set up an example in rendering services for the revival and development of economical conditions of the farming communities of the area. In recognition of these activities in the rural areas, Nehru Yuba Kendra had adjudged this organisation as a best organisation in the District of Burdwan (West Bengal) for its outstanding work being rendered in the fields of social services and national integration and awarded “District Youth Award.” After a long hard and dedicated services to the people of this area the organisation has been able to spread its activities in different directions for the cause of rural poor masses with the active help and participation of different national, international philanthropic organisations, Govt. of India, Govt. of West Bengal and also different Overseas Govts. through their Hon’ble High Commissions and Embassies. These activities and achievements are narrated below in seriatim. i. Protection of Environment – Tree plantation, plantation of fruit - bearing trees and preservation of trees in public places -This is an yearly program from which hundreds of trees have been planted and growing up in public places with an idea for better environment and also to create national assets which will be used for poverty alleviation cause. For this purpose 500 nos. of different high yielding varieties of mango trees e.g Amrapalli, Himsagar, Nangra & Mallika are being planted & growing up on both sides of State Highway no. 8 in West Bengal. The achievements are fantastic. ii. Seed production & certification program - Thousands of farmers including women working force and landless agricultural day labourers are being benefited directly. Achievements are very good. Certified paddy seed production reaches to more than 100 MT yearly and farmers have been able to increase their paddy production considerably. iii. Agro-service centre - Thousands of farmers are benefited by procurring fertilizers, manures, insecticides, pesticides etc. from the sale points of Agro-service centre of the organisation. The achievement is that the farmers are getting fertilizers at a fair price and black-marketing has been eased down considerably in a large area of the District. More than 4000 farmers are benefited. iv. Extension of drinking water facility - Several cylindrical hand pump tubewells are installed in different poor villages and people are getting drinking water free from arsenic contamination. v. Govt. of India supported projects - Creche centres for poor working mothers and their children, Youth Development Centre and promotion of Sports & Games for rural youths in collaboration with Nehru Yuba Kendra are being running and organisied. 200 working mothers and their children are benefited from the scheme. vi. J.R.D. Tata Children Park - Tata Steel is supporting different welfare projects and a children park in the name of J.R.D. Tata is one of them where more than 100 children of 4 nearby villages are enjoying the benefit. vii. Health care unit - A health care unit is running and general medicines are being supplied to the poor. Mostly preventive care is taken in the unit. On the other hand “Pulse Polio” and other vaccination program are taken up with the assistance from Health Department, Govt. West Bengal and viii.
