AchieveMents: ALAKENDU BODH NIKETAN RESIDENTIAL (ABNR), the pioneer and first residential institute, are non profitable NGO, was launched in the year 1977, under the initiative of late Dr Bimalendu Narayan Roy founder director, recipient of National award and many distinguished awards. ABNR aims at creating and strengthening rights based special education programme which helps to create community awareness and mainstreaming of the differently abled children. The organization develops and implements highest quality programmes, initiatives and services to achieve its mission. ABNR AND ITS UNITS: ABNR Main unit in Kolkata Special school for Mentally Challenged (boys & Girls). Vocational training for Mentally Challenged Adults (18 years & onwards). Training Course in Special Education viz. D. ED. SE (MR) under RCI & Manipal University. DPEP Programme. ABNR Jemo Unit, Murshidabad DPEP Programme SAMARTH by National Trust. ADIP (appliances Scheme). ABNR Sonada Unit, a rural based project in the hilly area of Darjeeling & residential. ABNR Khirpai Unit, a rural based project in Paschim Midapore& residential. DPEP is going here run by SSA Govt. of WB. ABNR Anuradha Unit, exclusive project for Girls & Adult Women& residential. MODES OF SERVICES IN SPECIAL SCHOOL: Early interventions and Home Based Programming, O.P.D., Community Based Rehabilitation Education, Vocational Training, Model School. Residential Services, Special School Services. Speech Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, Behaviour Therapy, Yogic-Play Therapy, counseling, Multi Sensory Training, I.Q. assessment, Special Education. Day School, Open School, Integrated Education. Terminal assessment, Longitudinal follow -up, Transition, Vocational training. CARE GROUP: Physical management. Different therapies. Preparation of Care Giver. Augmentatives and Alternative communication. Independent in Performing Skill. THE VOCATIONAL UNIT CONSISTS WITH THE UNITS OF Weaving, Carpentry, Printing & binding, Candle making, Stitching & Embroidery, Clay modeling, Art., Music & Dance, Computer Training, Sheltered workshop, Library facilities, Teachers’ Training Course. In spite of that ABNR celebrating social integration programme, play and cultural activities and many festivals along with World Disabled Day and National Day for Mentally Challenged.
