PROMOTION OF INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC During the 44 years of its existence, the Sabha has organized numerous concerts featuring artistes from all gharanas, particularly the Patiala gharana, the Dhrupad-Dagar gharana, and the Gwalior, Agra, Kirana, Atrauli and Rampur-Sahaswan gharanas. The Sabhas concerts feature both renowned musicians as well as emerging talents. There are two annual events: the Barsi in the spring in Bombay and the Sabrang Utsav in the fall in Delhi. Recent prominent performers have included Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Pt. L.K. Pandit, Ustad Raza Ali Khan and Pt. Madhup Mudgal. MEDICAL AID TO MUSICIANS Since its inception the Sabha has provided medical assistance to several hundred musicians by paying medical bills, hospitalization and providing access to doctors associated with the Sabha. We also approach governmental organizations on behalf of the musicians. In 2011-12, medical charges for Ustad Fahimuddin Dagar amounting to several lakhs were waived at Fortis Hospital through the efforts of the Sabha. Doctors on the Sabhas panel include Dr. Ravi Bhatia, Dr. H.S. Rissam (now passed away), Dr. K.D. Gupta, Dr. Kitty Law, Dr. V. Duggal, Dr. Alok Mathur, Dr. Manocha, Dr. Anupam Bhargava, Dr. Anita Yadav, Dr. S.J. Gupta, Dr. Preeti Sanghi and Dr. Mohan. DONATION OF INSTRUMENTS In 2006 the Delhi chapter of the Sabha also initiated a program of donating musical instruments to young artistes who, while undergoing rigorous training, are not in a position to afford the cost of instruments of their own. The Sabha also provides funds for the repair of instruments. We recently provided funds to Ustad Rafique Ahmed Khan for the repair of his sarangi, which he had been unable to play due to disrepair.
