Operational States: WEST BENGAL

AchieveMents: We set up four blind schools in West Bengal out of which one (Louis Braille Memorial School for the Sightless at Uttarpara, Hooghly) has been sponsored by the state government. Another school (Helen Keller Smriti Vidyamandir at Krishnanagar, Nadia) receives grants from Ministry of Social Justice under Deen Dayal Scheme. We conduct a Braille press and library, Lal Bihari Shah Braille Academia, Vidyapalli, Malancha-Mahinagar, Kolkata – 700145. We provide Braille books to sightless individuals at Rs.10 per Braille volume from the Academia. We organise and encourage participation of sightless people in social activities through blood donation camps, relief collection during natural calamities, etc. We organise seminars and exhibitions for developing awareness about blindness and blind people’s problems. Only sightless people can become members. Innumerable volunteers help the Association without remuneration. We try to build up exemplary characters among the sightless that the society can truly recognise their worth and accept them with honour and dignity.
