THE CENTRAL OFFICE of CARITAS-GOA in Panjim, is responsible for the over-all administration and co-ordination of the activities of all the Institutions/projects under Caritas-Goa. PROJECTS FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN 1. St. Bridget’s Institute of Home Science 2. Caritas-Goa Training Centre for Women 3. Self Help Groups 4. Obra de Proteccao a Mulher (O.P.M.) 5. Guardianship of Relinquished Babies/Children PROJECTS FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF THE DISABLED/DIFFERENTLY ABLED 1. Saint Francis Xavier’s Centre for the Differently Abled: a) St. Xavier’s Academy b) St. Xavier’s Vocational Training Centre c) St. Xavier’s Shanti Niketan 2. Prosthetic and Orthotic Centre 3. Christ the King Physiotherapy Centre 4. Dr. Graciano Ribeiro de Santana Empowerment Centre 5. Other services to the Sector of the Disabled: a) Caritas-Goa is the State Partner of NCPEDP b) works in close collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare. c) Member of the “Goa Disability Network” d) promotes employment to the Disabled and provides sheltered employment. PROJECTS FOR PROTECTION OF HEALTH: Community health is one of the issues taken up in the Social Apostolate in Goa, the important aspect being spread of HIV/AIDS. The Community Care Homes: 1. ASRO - Tivim is a Home for children with HIV/AIDS (mostly orphans) 2. ASRO- Cavelossim: A Community Care Centre takes care of adults as well as children with HIV/AIDS. 3. Home Nursing Training at Aldona: Caritas-Goa conducts a Certificate Course in Home Nursing of one year designed for training boys, girls, men, ladies, particularly for assistance at home and in hospitals. 4. Mobile Healthcare Project: Caritas-Goa is collaborating with Faith Works India in running a Mobile Healthcare Project called `Healing Touch’, with the help of the Conference of St. Vincent de Paul at the grass roots level. 5. Centre for Responsible Tourism: is an initiative of Caritas-Goa and Council for Social Justice and Peace to safeguard the social health of Goa. SERVICE TO PRISONERS: Prison Ministry – A team comprising of Religious, Clergy and Lay persons renders service to Prisoners like visiting prisons, families of prisoners and helping them financially and in the rehabilitation of released prisoners. RELIEF WORK AFTER CALAMITIES: Caritas-Goa co-ordinates and supports the relief operations for victims of calamities like Earthquakes, Prevention against plague, Cyclones and Floods. Recently the victims of Khandamal, Orissa have been helped financially to the tune of Rs. 69,11,984/-. RELIEF TO NEEDY INDIVIDUALS: Caritas-Goa gives financial assistance to poor families for nutrition and health. It also gives assistance to purchase medicines and for other medical surgical specialized care. A number of poor people are given assistance for repairs of their houses. Caritas-Goa also assists persons with part subsidy and part loan to start small business so that they can earn their livelihood. Women in distress who come to Caritas-Goa are given monetary help to maintain themselves and their children. SCRUTINY AND RECOMMENDATION OF PROJECTS: Caritas-Goa processes all Social Welfare and Animation Projects to be recommended to Funding Agencies, with due approval of the Ecclesiastical Authorities SUPPORTING PROJECTS: a) Caritas Goa Holiday Home: This project provides clean and safe accommodation to Tourists at a reasonable rate and generates employment to the Differently Abled within their capabilities and to other qualified/competent unemployed persons b) Conference Hall: This spacious and well equipped Hall is a good facility for seminars, workshops and meetings c) The Terrace garden also serves as a good place for small gatherings and celebrations The income generated through these is utilized to support the various activities taken up by Caritas-Goa. OTHER FUNDS MANAGED BY CARITAS GOA: 1.
