AchieveMents: The organization CESR is operational since early 1990’s in the tribal dominated areas of the Chhotonagpur plateau of West Bengal including the Districts of Purulia, Bankura, Midnapore and Birbhum. The major objective of the organization is To undertake researches, training, consultancy and counseling on the environmental and socio-economic problems aimed at designing development strategies that foster sustainable natural resource use, preservation of biodiversity, reduction of environmental pollution, lesser socio-economic and gender disparity, support child development and better health care for the people both in the rural and the urban areas. The major Project based activities of the organization are as follows: 1) “Catalyzing Community Sstructures to Support Integrated Health and Nutrition Outcomes for Children in West Bengal”, supported by Save the Children, Kolkata. The project is being implemented in the vulnerable tribal pockets of Purulia. The said project implementation started covering the area of 30 backward villages under 3 GPs in 2 CD blocks (Hura and Purulia-I) of Purulia district with a total population of 28,000 and targeted beneficiaries of 3175 children (upto 5 years) and 1377 pregnant and lactating mothers. Pilot project of Community based MCH&N project implementation started by CESR, Purulia during September, 2008 in response to the grave health and nutrition situation of women and children in the district of Purulia. The strategy emphasized on a multi-sector approach and involved the major systems i.e. Health and ICDS as well as the PRI. In this project, approach is being implemented in an effort to reverse the downward trends in the health and nutrition status of Purulia district. The goal of the project is to sustained reduction in child and maternal mortality in the coverage area. Initially, the project area covered two blocks within Purulia district. 2) Apart from this the organization is organizing Rule of Law Seminar in association with Konrad Adenauer Foundation, New Delhi. During the year two numbers of seminars were organized in 3-days duration out of which one seminar at Adibasi Pally Unnayan Sanstha, Chhatni, Ajodhya in Baghmundi CD Block and another at Bandwan Gram Unnayan Samity, Barunia in Bandwan CD Block. 3) Pre-Primary Education: Pre-primary education of the children in the villages where there is no formal primary school. As an initial venture the organization has started three centres in three villages with 118 tribal children. During the last financial year another 3 centers 4) Free Coaching Centre: Free coaching centers were stated at Bandowan and Ajodhya villages during the last year. All the centers are run by the youth volunteers of that locality. In these coaching centers students up to high school standard are being served. 5) Training Programme: Mushroom Cultivation Youth Leadership Development Food & Nutrition Agriculture (on farm development of Mustard seed & Kitchen gardening) Animal Resource Development 6) Formation of Self Help Groups Total 51 numbers of new SHGs were formed during the year. 7) Monitoring and Evaluation
