AchieveMents: Achievements of CICD The Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD) was founded in 1977 and since then has built its credibility and reputation on the merit of the quality of dance education imparted, activities undertaken and its emphasis on a holistic and socially integrated presentation of dance and other art forms of India. CICD is furthering the cause of promotion of Indian classical dances not only in India but all over the world. CICD is selflessly providing training and dissemination of knowledge and cultural traditions of India. CICD has continuously been presenting new choreographies every year on India’s Republic Day/Independence Day and many other occasions. They have been admired by one and all not only in India but also abroad. There has been continuous demand for presentations by Centre’s senior disciples. It is a proof of the value and authority of the training being imparted at the Centre. The training brings the disciples to a level of professionalism with which they are able to perform, teach and be useful to the society in many other ways. Centre has been in the forefront of India’s cultural institutions since 1977 when there were just 4-5 such institutions in Delhi. CICD organized annual festivals in which reputed dancers from all over India participated, festivals for young dancers in which Leela Samson, Saswati Sen, Bharati Shivaji, Kishan Mohan etc. were seen in Delhi. CICD organized meaningful seminars in the decades of 1970, 80, 90s in which Gurus like Prof U S Krishna Rao, Smt. Jayalaxmi, Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai, Chandralekha, Dr. Kapila Vatsyayana etc. participated. Centre has since inception set many hallmarks and ideas which have been taken up and emulated by later dancers and their organizations. CICD practiced the policy of Gurukula system and also provided free tutitions/classes/ guidance to economically Backward children from NGOs like Sulabh & Deepalaya. CICD’s productions have addressed issues like Jail Reforms, Environment, Women’s Rights, Child-trafficking etc. CICD today retains its position in the front ranks of socio-cultural institutions of India.
