CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT IN ACTION W B CHAPTER Major Activities and Achivements

We work with communities and partner organizations to empower disadvantaged and marginalized people to have a say in the decisions that affect them; to give them access to a secure livelihood and essential services, and to make them more resilient in the face of poverty. Our intervention is always centered around generating awareness on how to make life self sustainable. CDA has operated over 20 projects throughout the state of West Bengal in partnership with 5 organizations. By partnering with local stakeholders, CDA works with people so that they can take control of their lives and build a better future for themselves, their families, and the communities they live in. We believe in the dignity of people and their capacity to overcome their problems. We intend to create marketing opportunities for enterprises created by the women for the women and of the women. Vocational training will be an integral part of every livelihood opportunity created. Empowering women to take control of their lives, CDA recognizes that traditional attitudes which limit women’s say over what happens in their lives – and in wider communities – means they generally suffer poverty most. This is why incorporating gender issues in every aspect of our work are one of CDA’s priorities. This means ending violence against women. In our programmes we ensure that both women and men are consulted, and their different needs considered, to be sure they benefit equally. And we encourage women to play an active role in making decisions at home and in their communities. We also support initiatives to ensure that adolescents are well prepared for the effects of physiological and psychological changes they go through during those transition period so that they are able to face every challenge they encounter in being a fully developed productive manpower. Several programmes on health were organized with special initiative on awareness generation and capacity building for various stakeholders involved with the health system delivery mechanism. The following programs have been organized. Several meetings with panchayat members were organized to influence the local schools to include the issue of life skill education in the curriculum of the schools. Advocacy were even done with parents to get them fully involved in the process so that an enabling environment persists in their homes as well.
