DEVELOPMENT PROMOTION GROUP Major Activities and Achivements
School enrolment at primary level - more than 100% , at secondary level - more than 67%. Provided entrepreneurship trainingto more than 20000 women resulting in 3500 women taking up petty businesses in their own village, enabling them to earn more than Rs.100/- as additional income per day Dependency on money lenders have completelystopped in 80% of the afmilies and regular savings habit has come in to the families. Asset creation at the household level. Implementation of watershed projects has resulted in increased water tables, new water springs, more crop production, more crop intensity and more varieties of crop leding to food security in the villages. Initiated the construction of 102 houses for dalit families, constructed one Community Hall for the fisher folks at Vellapallem and one Vocational Training Centre for the dalits at Poovathadi in Nagapattinam. Creation of more linkages with banks and Government have resulted in more developmental aids and grant-in-aid flow to the target people leading to their life change. Enabled more than 3000 families to have Differential Rate of Interest loan ranging from Rs.10,000- to Rs.15,000/- @4% interest rate from Indian Overseas Bank to take up new income generation programmes. Enabled Indian Overseas Bank to adopt two of our Tsunami affected villages (Kameshwaram & Vilunthamavadi) in Nagapattinam district under "Sampoorna scheme" thereby the entire credit needs of the families are now being met by the bank.
