AchieveMents: Foundation for Environment & Economic Development Services (FEEDS) have undertaken series of activities like development of land and water resources for promotion of large cardamom, ginger, tree plantation, floriculture, and agriculture, free supply of seedlings and providing technical support, training men, women and youth in raising nursery and plantation of different crops. The organizations has successfully raised and maintains 50 ha. of tea, 70 ha. Of large cardamom, 2 ha. of floriculture. It has also undertaken rural housing (62 houses) and low-cost sanitation (55 units) financed by the Government of India and agro-social forestry (100 ha.) for beneficiaries and had provided training in cardamom cultivation and distribution of seedlings to 390 farmers. It has developed demonstration farm of gladiolus, avocado, kiwi fruits and raised a 2 ha nursery of indigenous orchids farm. Besides, FEEDS is the first in India to grow Emu in cold regions and the first in introducing Emu into the North East. This is a new agro business the FEEDS have introduced to Manipur to recognize as the future protein needs of the state. FEEDS, Hengbung has come forward with a turkey farm, the first in the Senapati district. Presently the FEEDS has planned to launch a training cum awareness programme on turkey farming with objectives of popularizing turkey farming among the hill people of the district. And a high-tech polyhouse (700’ length x 200’ breadth) complete with polyfilm, shade net, irrigation systems, temperature control systems and other related fittings with a large capital investment has initiated at the FEEDS by the Technology Mission, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Manipur, to provide complete floriculture solutions to the flower growers. The foundation for Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS), Manipur has been performing actively in the field of Environment, Economic and Natural resources management, since its inception in the year 1988, in various part of Senapati District and is a front-runner amongst the voluntary organizations. The organization has its own residential training centre, demonstration plots on slope agriculture land technology (SALT) and watershed development (IWDP), plot at its centre at Hengbung village near Senapati the District Head Quarter. The organization has acquired tremendous experience in terms of its activities and commendable achievements in the development of Rural upland Agro-forestry, family base Tea Plantation, Commercial flower cultivation, conservation of orchids and extension service. In order to cope up with the prevailing deteriorating environment and economic conditions, the FEEDS introduced Silvi-Agri-Horticulture plantation to preserve ecology and improve economy of the region. We have so far distributed 300,000 saplings of various kinds of plants to the villagers and our field assistants are assisting in the plantation works.
