AchieveMents: Indian Mime Theatre is a leading mime group in India working for the promotion, development and propagation of Bharatiya Mukabhinaya ( Indian Pantomime ) in India as well as abroad. It is founded by Shri Niranjan Goswami internationally known mime artiste and director in the year 1976 in Kolkata. Shri Goswami has been awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2002 & a recipient of Padma Shri award in 2009 and national and International awards.
Indian Mime Theatre has different wings for different activities like Training & Workshop, Research & Documentation, Repertory, Festival, Children Theatre Workshop, Hridaya Akash - a welfare project for child development and Nakshigram - women and children development project.
It is a registered society under the Society Registration Act of 1961.
The organisation is registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). The organisation is eligible to provide tax exemption to its donors under section 80G of Income Tax Act.
It is recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA), New Delhi; Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi; Paschim Banga Natya Akademi, Kolkata and Bharatiya Natya Sangha, New Delhi - the Indian chapter of International Theatre Institute, UNESCO, Paris, France.
Indian Mime Theatre is empanelled with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to work as a cultural ambassador of India.
Its activities under different wings includes Workshop in Mime, Acting, Puppet, Mask, Dance, Seminar, Exhibition, Lecture-Demonstration, Festival, Poster Design, Light Design, Costume Design, Set Design, Make-up, Effect Music, Magic, Mimicry, Vocational Training Programme for Youth, Projects for Special Children, Social Awareness Programme etc.
Hriday Akash is an aspiring project of Indian Mime Theatre that presently deals with the children of slum areas and desire to establish a village where orphans & senior artistes will be provided accommodation with full facilities for education, cultural training and a platform to showcase their talents in different field of Art & Culture.
Indian Mime Theatre has received a plot of land from Government of West Bengal at Salt Lake City, Kolkata and construction work is going on where it will be able to continue with its various activities and set up a National Mime Institute.
It has visited abroad to perform in countries Like East and West Germany; USA; U.S.S.R.; England; France; Afghanistan etc. It also participated in International Festivals held in Pyong Yong in North Korea; Sanghai in China; Chuncheon in South Korea; Bogota & Medellin in Columbia etc.
Different projects & activities that it has taken up so far as part of its socio-cultural & social welfare activities are : Mime training programme for the hearing challenge persons ; Culture and Values in Education through Performing & Allied Arts and Games; Non Formal Education through Performing & Allied Arts and Games; National Mime Festival for National Integration; National Cultural Camp for National Integration; Exhibition for Youth; Development of adlescent through Theatre; Vocational training for Youths; Vocational Training for Women; Vocational Training for children who left school; Developments of Adolescents & Girl Children through education, cultural therapy and computer training etc. Awareness programmes through street mime performances on Drug Abuses, Atrocities on women & girl children, AIDS, Literacy, Environment etc.
