INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPEMENT EDUCATION AND ACTION Major Activities and Achivements

Total sanitation campaign: provision of low-cost sanitation for below poverty line families by producing sanitary plates in a mart managed by IDEA. This project is in collaboration with UNICEF and GoI. The Govt. of India has declared Shyampur Block II (target area of IDEA) as fully sanitised. IDEA focuses on health, nutrition and income generation for the youths in the villages to ensure and sustain rural growth and development. IDEA aims at sustaining livelihood securities for over 6000 families in 40 villages covering 4 Gram Panchayats through strategic interventions on rural education, sustainable agriculture, community health and nutrition, micro-credit and micro-enterprises and peoplesí organisations. IDEA aims at strengthening the CBOs of rural villages of Howrah and urban slums in Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai; housing for the slums-dwellers of Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai and Tsunami relief (construction of low-cost houses) at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. CO Program: Awareness increased by CO program; Chawl committees formed; drinking water problem identified; Delegation to Municipality 76 new taps installed in Social Nagar Civic issues: installing taps, construction of roads, toilets, underground and open drainage systems, waste disposal Health Program: Supervising ICDS program Dowry harassment, domestic violence, child abuse & prostitution, early marriage HIV/AIDS awareness and campaign Eviction and Housing Rights: Legal entity for Dharavi Issuing photo-identity cards No demolition since 1980 as a result of campaign against eviction Land and Housing: Infrastructures under PMGP High-rise buildings under SRS 70 Cooperative Housing Societies for 12,973 families
