AchieveMents: ABOUT KADAMB .. Kadamb , Centre for Dance and Music was started in 1967 with the purpose of promoting the appreciation of Kathak dance in Ahmedabad and in the State of Gujarat. With 35 years of efforts and commitment Kadamb has gained the reputation of an institution which imparts training in kathak dance and a holistic view of dance education. At Kadamb we encourage students to take many programs relating to dance . A number of our students are working professionally in various fields of dance such as choreography , research, teaching , performing and writing . Kadamb’s dance company is one of the most outstanding performing groups in the country . It has a unique style of its own . Creative innovations and an intelligent approach , in themes and choreography , have provided new dimension to the Kathak dance technique and has made a very strong visual impact . Kadamb’s performing unit has produced over seventy dance productions which have been staged and appreciated by audiences throughout India. The group has given a number of performances and participated in dance festivals in many countries around the world. Kadamb’s forte is the manifestation of creative imagination in dance choreography , danced by highly trained and proficient dancers . A training in strict classicism has opened various new areas in artistic expression . Kadamb’s path breaking contribution and its choreographic skills have made considerable impression on the dance community in India as also on dancers in other parts of the world. For the past 25 years Kadamb’s performing group has enjoyed wide popularity and a busy touring season throughout India and abroad. Countries where Kadamb performed are .. USA, UK, USSR, Sweden , Germany, Seychelles, Portugal, Indonesia, Thailand, Mongolia, China, Korea, Pakistan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan , Japan, Singapore and Canada. In the year 2011 -2012 more than one hundred students are taking training in Kathak dance at various levels at Kadamb . Kadamb’s dance ensemble is one of the most outstanding performing companies in India. The renowned Kathak legend Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia started the institution in 1967 and has invested a life time contribution in promoting and propagating the classical Kathak dance to the generations now and next. Her creative innovations and imaginative approach of the time and space concept has created a unique style of its own. A celebrated group of dancers who have had an extensive training in Kathak at Kadamb are known for their virtuosity, precision and elegance. Kadamb has given the Indian dance scene a number of dancers who are now well known in their own right nationally and internationally. The original score for Kadamb’s dance compositions has been composed by the eminent musician Atul Desai. Kadamb has grown into a highly acclaimed dance company that enjoys wide appreciation and immense popularity within India and abroad.
