Kalapandhari Magaswargiya and Adiwasi Gramin Vikas Sanstha Latur Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: Nanded, Bid, Latur

Operational States: MAHARASHTRA

AchieveMents: We have come a long way after a small beginning in December ninety eighty six and in a span of few eventful years we have implemented a wide variety of projects covering activities like watershed development, wasteland development, tribal development, low cost sanitation, self help groups, projects for women up liftment and employment generated training program, etc. While implementing different developmental projects, our thrust has always been to secure peoples participation. At KMAGVS we have always believed in the capacities and capabilities of the communities and have always strive to channel hidden and dormant energies of the people for the betterment of the societies at large. Our efforts have always been directed in the direction of creating an environment conducive of giving opportunities to local people to think and act positively. We have always endeavored to develop skills and competencies of local communities with a view to enabling them to manage, operate and maintain the assets, created through the implementation of various projects on sustainable basis. KMAGVS is working in Latur, Beed, Osmanabad and Parbhani districts in the Marathwada region in Maharashtra state. It has its head office in Latur and branch offices at Pangaon and Parli. It has worked with the most marginalized communities in these regions on the themes of agriculture, natural resource management, NRM, land rights, labour rights, micro-finance, in relation to agriculture and land rights, primary education and child rights. Under NRM, KMAGVS has significant experience in watershed development. It has been implementing the Indo German Watershed Development Program, IGWDP since nineteen ninety six at Latur and Beed districts with financial and technical association from WOTR and NABARD in two villages covering three thousand nine hundred eighty six hectares of land and one thousand and forty three beneficiaries. The work of KMAGVS has been appreciated by the state government as well as donor agencies and NGO networks. Its unique strengths have been an inclusive and participatory approach, focused on mainstreaming gender in every intervention and a constant learning approach. It has taken optimum benefit of the support of expert consultants like BASIX, NABARD, Oxfam and others by using their services to develop knowledge and skills of its own team and beneficiaries Another important project of our long social journey was watershed development. Watershed development projects by us is designed to harmonize the use of water, soil, forest and pasture resources in a way that conserves these resources while raising agricultural productivity, both through in situ moisture conservation and increased irrigation through tank and aquifer based water harvesting. The project is initiated in the year in two villages of the district named gadadewadi and kadewadi.
