KHAGRA DEVELOPMENT ACTION FORUM Major Activities and Achivements

Background: Khagra Development Action Forum is non-profit, non-political, social welfare organization working for the socio economic development of the poorest of the poor. Its main aim is sustainable socio economic development of rural & urban poor through the strengthening of existing systematic Govt. & Non Govt. strategies and adopt new policies whatever necessary for back-word regions. The District Murshidabad is a most back-word district in West Bengal as even in India. Near about 140 KM Indo-Bangladesh pores border from Jangipur to Jalangi are situated within the district. More that 70% of the people living here form the minority community. The literacy rate is not upto the mark in this district. Every year the flood is the common phenomena for this district. It is notable that the soil erosion is the main problem in this district. Many houses, school building, cultivated land was destroyed by the effect of erosion. Those people are affected from the destruction of erosion they are now living in the temporary shelter in urban area besides the roadside, railway track as encroachers. Many migrated labour are working in the different parts of India like Gujrat, Surat, South east India, Mumbai and also outside of India like Dubai, Quarter, Saudi Arabia etc. The women position in rural & urban area is also not upto the mark. The IMR & MMR of the district is less than that of the others district. The farmers are practicing the oldest mode of cultivation, which they gain less crop production including the productivity of land. Domestic violence, polygamous marriage and atrocities against the women, trafficking and child labour are the are also found in most of the rural and urban area. Keeping in above, some respected persons and some of the energetic youth form Berhampore town, the head quarter of Murshidabad wants to do something to eradicate a little more problems on above. Trough a meeting on January08 and discussion Khagra Development Action Forum (KDAF) has been developed by the active participation of the members of KDAF. Activities & Achievements Book donation programme Since its inception the organization donates books to students whose parents are very poor and not to bear the educational materials for their children. Health Programme The organization distributed the essential medicine with free of cost to the BPL persons by establishing a network with reputed doctors and medical representatives collecting the medicines. The reputed medical companies have also be advocate for this purpose. Short-term course 6 months short time certificate course both theoretical & practical has been running on Voluntary Action with 25 nos. of students. After completion of the course the trainee would be send to others organization for placement. Awareness on Right to Information Act 2005 The organization has been taking initiatives to arrange campaign proramme on Right to Information Act 2005 with the representatives of CBOs, NGOs and Government officials involving Government officials as facilitators. The organization was assist to the people who want to get information from any center as per its possibilities.
