Mewat Development Society Key Issues and
Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements
Operational Districts: Mewat
Operational States: HARYANA
AchieveMents: Mewat, named after its dominant people, Meos, is a socio-cultural region spread over contiguous parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. They are also sizeably spread over to other parts of the country such as MP, Gujrat and Maharashtra. Though the Meo community had significantly contributed to the national freedom movement yet it by and large remained backward even after independence.
A group of social activists of Mewat, working in diverse fields, joined hands on voluntary basis, to fight against the backwardness in the rural areas. Consequently, among other efforts, one such effort was formal registration of the Mewat Development Society in 1987 under societiesââ¬â¢ Registration Act 1860 and is now working in different states and Union Territories of India. Itââ¬â¢s also registered under FCRA and is also life member of Confederation of NGOs of Rural India.
