Mukti Rehabilitation Centre Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: North Twenty Four Parganas

Operational States: WEST BENGAL

AchieveMents: Mukti is a social organization working for the marginalized sections of the society since 2002. We are at present running five programs. 1. Rehabilitation Program(Residential) for Solvent Addicted Children 2. De-addiction Program(Residential) 3. Outreach Program at Sealdah Railway Station 4. Educational Program at Chengail for Child Domestic Workers 5. Computer Literacy Program at Rajarhat In addition we also organize awareness programs on health and education in association with schools and industry bodies like CII and Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only NGO which provides a single umbrella rehabilitation program for the marginalized kids, including those who are referred to as platform kids. With doctors in attendance round the clock, probably the only NGO in Kolkata to offer such an all inclusive facility, the kids are groomed, tutored, schooled and vocationally trained for effective reintegration into the mainstream. Our rehabilitation program for street and platform children which was catering to 15 boys last year has been extended to cater to 25 boys this year (2015-16) . The effectiveness of program has been evident in the fact that the Child Welfare Committee (Constituted under the Juvenile Justice Act 2000) in various districts continued to repose their faith on us and sent children in need of De-addiction, care and protection to us. At present 14 boys are attending Apeejay School, Salt Lake(7 in the formal section and 7 in the non formal section) while 7 older boys are in Vocational training. The entire process is geared towards reintegrating the children back into the mainstream of the society and giving them back the rights that they have been denied. The emphasis is on Education and Skills Development through which the children become independent adults. The aim is to see children having nowhere to go and nobody, turning into young adults with somewhere to go and somebody with their own identities and leading independent lives . We have all the required sanctions, including exemption under Sec 80G of I.Tax and mental health license.
