AchieveMents: Orissa Voluntary Health Association (OVHA) is the leading health association in the state of Orissa, coordinating, advocating and capacity building on all pertinent health issues. OVHA is founded and based on our health focused NGO members from across the state. Our activities serve to build the body of knowledge and expertise on health issues in Orissa and provide the tools and information to achieve this aim. OVHA’s research and project activities provide the basis for service development and initiatives in our key thrust areas. We believe in making health a reality for people in Orissa. Our activities are tailored to all aspects of this mission. Orissa Voluntary Health Association is a secular, non-political and non-profit making federation registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860 (Act XXI) in the state of Orissa. We are the oldest and largest health association in the state and have been in operation since 1976. A federation with defined goals and objectives, OVHA is recognised as an apex organisation acting as a catalyst in the field of health and development. OVHA works with policy makers, planners, academics and health professionals in order to improve the health status of the people. We collaborate with government, regional, national and international bodies of similar types to strengthen their activities. Based in Bhubaneswar OVHA caters its services to all areas of Orissa. VISION Making health a reality for the people of Orissa MISSION · Promotion of community health, social justice and human rights related to the provision and distribution of health care services to the under privileged and economically weaker section of the community. · To act as a people’s health movement, advocating congenial policies and plans aiming at improving the health status of the people of Orissa. FUTURE THRUST AREAS OF OVHA i Address the immediate health needs of most vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. ii. Enhance the disaster preparedness capacity of communities. iii. Malaria prevention and control. iv. Target the less-addressed problems in the state like mental health, tribal health, and rational use of drugs, substance abuse and sickle cell anemia. v. HIV/AIDS. vi. Include and work with traditional systems of medicine. vii. Strengthen the health IEC activities in State. viii Advocate with the government for formulation and implementation of adequate policies for enhancing the state health status.
