Peoples Green Society is working for sustainable agriculture since its inception. It has engaged to mobilize and develop network among the various VOS and NGOs to respond the UNO’s clarion call for observing ‘Water Decade’ 2005 – 2015 and International Natural Fiber Year 2009. The members of the Society are actively protesting against deforestation and tree felling in urban and rural areas. The Society is continuously working for the upliftment for the poor people residing in villages and cities. It has a notable work in the area of environment friendly development. The World Bank honoured Peoples Green Society a Finalist of the India Development Marketplace 2007 on the theme ‘Grassroots Initiatives for Management and Protection of Natural Resources’ on 28 May 2007. The IDM Authority also gave the Society a ‘Knowledge Grant’ recognizing the quality of Society’s innovation. The presentation of the Society was appreciated by the visitors of the marketplace. The partners of India Development Marketplace were Ministry of Environment & Forest, International Finance Corporation, World Health Organization, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Asian Development Bank, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Times Foundation, Ford Foundation, Department for International Development, Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces. The People Green Society is doing a tremendous job for creating awareness on Social Forestry. As a result the Society’s Secretary was invited in a panel discussion by Doordarshan Authority on Forest Day in the year 2007. It was a live telecast programme. To create consciousness the Society organizes people’s march in a regular manner against environmental degradation, poverty, social injustice and illiteracy.
