AchieveMents: The Quilon Social Service Society (QSSS) is the official organization of the Catholic Diocese of Quilon for social apostolate with the Bishop himself serving as President. Founded in the year 1960, the major endeavors of the diocesan organization during the yester years have been in providing basic existence in support to the ethnic fisher communities and similar other backward sections together with their transition to more human conditions. In this regard, the Society has been instrumental in launching and conducting series of projects and programs, namely, Non formal education, Animation, Community organization, Micro finance development / Peoples bank, Skills up-gradation, Occupational development, Women’s empowerment, Innovative income generation schemes, Community health, housing, sanitation etc. For the last couple of years, the entire organizational capacity has remained devoted contracting with the disastrous outcome of Tsunami by taking up various measures / projects of rehabilitation – restoration/ reconstruction, Disaster resistant housing, occupational reinstatement, health care, Social security measures – insurance, Community based disaster preparedness integrated with natural resource management, etc.
