AchieveMents: RCDC started its journey with the mandate to empower local communities to manage their own natural resources efficiently & effectively for addressing poverty and improving the quality of life. Currently it is working in the areas of Policy and Action Research, Advocacy and Networking, and Field Demonstration, Interventions relating to community based natural resource management and livelihood enhancement. MAIN PROGRAMME AREAS OF RCDC: 1. Research, Advocacy and Campaign on Natural Resource Management. Policy research and advocacy for ge forest protecting and managing communities to own, control and manage forest and its products, land resource management, land alienation & entitlement issues, water resource management, and water use conflicts Strengthening the capacity of forest protecting communities to establish sustainable forest management models and practices. Monitoring & strengthening of participatory forest management initiatives of the government and other agencies. Institution building and networking on forestry and development issues. Research, documentation and advocacy on entitlement over forestland. Independent monitoring and strengthening of implementation of different land entitlement programmes and schemes. Publication of periodicals, communication materials, occasional papers etc. Independent monitoring of implementation of different programmes on water resource development and management. Building capacity of communities and PRIs to establish efficient and effective installation and maintenance of drinking water sources. Demonstration and popularization of cost-effective de-fluoridation technologies. Promotion of specialized education curriculum in the schools for safe drinking water and for water resource conservation 2. Field Demonstration Project - Integrated CommunityDevelopment Programme: Capacity building of different community based institutions/ organisations for resource management and livelihood enhancement. Demonstration and promotion of sustainable resource management models and practices. Promotion of sustainable agricultural practices especially for the smallholders in agriculture. Establishment of community based management of forest, land and water resources. Promotion of NRM based livelihood enterprises and building appropriate linkages with different opportunities in the market. Strengthening capacity of PRIs for promotion of decentralized management of resources and addressing priority development issues of the area. 3. Market Access for Non-Timber Forest Products and Agriculture Produces. Promotion of alternative market frameworks for procurement and trade of NTFP and agriculture produces especially emphasizing a strong role for the SHG Cooperatives in procurement, value addition and trade. Building capacity of SHG especially women SHGs, farmersââ¬â¢ groups and cooperatives for establishment of community based enterprises on NTFP & agriculture produces. Providing business development services to SHGs, cooperatives and other institutions for promotion of enterprises and building linkages with financial and marketing institutions. Consistent market research and documentation, and providing necessary support to primary producers. Popularization of sustainable harvesting practices especially for NTFP and product standardizations. 4. Consulting Services to CSOs and Development Support Agencies: Technical assistance to NGOs and Support Agencies for developing M&E systems; for carrying out evaluations and subject specific studies. Technical assistance to different agencies for carrying of research work and documentation, Organizing training and other capacity building programmes for NGOs and support agencies.
