AchieveMents: Among its many achievements, Sense International India has
1. Consultative status with United Nations on disability issues
2. Increased the number of deafblind people receiving support from just 23 in 1997 to more than 71,000 today.
3.Developed a network of 57 partners across the country to sustain the movement to support deafblindness. Strengthened this further by a unique mentorship programme and instituting Regional and state learning Centres.
4.Strategically aligned with the Government of India in their flagship- education programme- Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan SSA for inclusion of deafblind children in its mandate.
5.Facilitated inclusion of deafblindness in Disability Policy of Chhattisgarh state. We are now working in Bihar, Meghalaya and Kerala on similar lines.
6.Designed and initiated a two year diploma course in Special Education on Deafblindness recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India and certified by the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped NIVH.
7.Ensured the incorporation of deafblindness in various training programmes and curriculums such as those of National Institutes NIVH, NIMH, NIEPMD, and AYJNIHH, primary and secondary mainstream school teachers, resource teachers and coordinators working in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan SSA, educators of single category disability, doctors, Caregivers etc.
8. Facilitated the inclusion of deafblindness into National Trust Act for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities.
9. Deafblindness is now included under the assistance to disabled persons for Purchase Fitting of Aids & Appliances scheme of Government of India.
10. Our Advocacy Officer Zamir Dhale has been elected as a board member in the prestigious National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation & Multiple Disabilities Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India.
11. Contributed as member of drafting committee for the "Rights of People With Disabilities Bill".
