AchieveMents: The Leprosy Mission Trust India has 141 years of dedicated service amongst the poorest and most ostracized communities through low cost quality healthcare, vocational training for sustainable livelihoods and education and community development interventions in some of the poorest districts in India through 14 hospitals, 6 vocational training centers, various community development projects, 2 leprosy homes, research lab etc. • Leprosy Medical & Surgical Care: In 2014 alone 75,522 outpatient consultations for leprosy care, 7,104 admissions for specialized leprosy care and conducted 3,351 leprosy related surgeries were done. • General Healthcare to communities: 466,118 outpatient general consultations; 9,332 admissions for medical, surgical, obstetric and ophthalmic care were done. • In 2014 - 1,346 underprivileged young people enrolled in TLMTI’s institution based and community based livelihoods skills training courses. • Education: In 2014, 1,182 underprivileged young people were able to continue their school, college and professional education because of TLMTI’s financial assistance program. • In 2014, through TLMTI’s community development interventions: 7,236 people from marginalised communities were assisted with income generating activities; 1,295 Self Help Groups were formed and supported for community mobilization; 137,558 women from marginalized communities were supported through empowerment initiatives; 13,790 people affected by leprosy were supported through development and leprosy care initiatives; 12,543 people with disabilities were supported through development and disability management initiatives. • TLMTI’s state of the art Immunology Research Laboratory is a recognised WHO and National Drug Resistance Surveillance centre for leprosy and trains PhD students and other post-graduates in advanced laboratory research. • In 2015 TLMTI was a joint winner of the prestigious Times of India Social Impact Award in the Health Category. • TLMTI sensitized the Law Commission of India regarding the discriminatory laws against people affected by leprosy as a result of which the Law Commission in 2015, has recommended to the Government the Eliminating Discrimination Against People affected by Leprosy Bill and Social Inclusion of people affected by leprosy and their families. • TLMTI is committed to its mission and the potential to further it through a broad range of strategic partnerships/collaborations e.g. the NLEP under the Ministry of Health, the WHO, the International Federation of Anti-leprosy Associations (ILEP), The National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women.
