AchieveMents: Major Activities/Achievements (Not more than 500 words) Since last 20 years VIKASANA is working in 4 districts, namely Chikmagalore, Shimoga, Davangere and Hassan district covering 480 villages/slums with providing its service to rural backward, marginalized, tribal and downtrodden community, under various community development programs like promotion of community organization, watershed development, nutritional management, food security, crop management, promotion of organic compost, tank study and management, natural resource conservation, ground water rechargement, bio-diversity conservation, sustainable agriculture practice, promotion of herbal medicines, comprehensive community health, awareness on HIV/AIDS, RCH/MCH, women empowerment, panchayath raj strengthening, skill development programs for youths, child labour rehabilitation, formal and non-formal education programs for needy and downtrodden community. Achievements: • 450 Community organization and 10 Village Forest Committees have been formed and functioning effectively in target villages • 60% of bank linkages established with SHGs with achieved 55% of savings • 900 families provided training on sustainable natural resource management, protecting soil and water conservation concepts • 03 community seed bank has been developed in target villages. • 275 smokeless chullas have been installed • 15 bio-gas plants have been constructed for beneficiaries. • Increased the fertility of 710 acres of agriculture dry land • 25 farm ponds have been constructed including 12 check dam through which the level of ground water has been substantially increased from 150 feet to 110 feet • 60% of Reduction in migration through employment opportunity under Natural Resource Management program • 1230 acres of land has been implemented under soil and water conservation measures as well micro watershed development • 99,000 horticulture saplings have been distributed and planted nearby beneficiaries • 2 Herbal gardens has been set-up in a place with being cultivated 66 medicinal plants. • A survey undertaken on water and sanitation, subsequently a study on Tungabhadra basin • 3000 awareness programs on climatic change, environment protection, social and education issues • 75 beneficiaries have been benefited under construction of soak pits in 10 project villages like Ujinipura, Mulekatte, Collie block in Bhadravathi taluk • Adoption of sustainable agriculture in 800 hectares of dry land • 183 wardha model toilets have been constructed in project villages • 30 vermi compost and 28 traditional compost pits have been in a place • 600 families have been adopted sustainable methods of agriculture practice • 18 Azola pits have been in a place • 8,000 tractor loads of tank silt lifted and applied to agricultural fields. • Agriculture productivity has been improved in 575 acres through organic farming. • 10 Kitchen garden promoted in the project villages • Soil and water conservation activities have been implemented in 2500 acres of dry land • Agro - forestry plants have been developed in 630 acres of land • Earthen bunds completed in 555 acres, stone bunds 450 meters, gully plugs 20, nala checks 10, vegetative checks 25 have been carried out
