The Village Planning Forum was started in 1977 by the late Swamiji and Head of Kundrakudi Thiruvannamalai Adheenam Trust. Kundrakudi Adigalar for promoting Integrated Development of villages with the involvement of scientists (CECRI, University) Governemt officials, financial institutions and local leaders. Annual and five year plans were prepared for making the village self-sufficient in all respects. The programme was implemented under the guidance of Swamiji and the monitoring was done by the VPF during its monthly meeting fixed for the fourth Saturday of every month. The success was tremendous with increase in activities in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, setting of cooperative societies and setting up of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, hospitals etc. Department of Science and Technology (GOI), through the STED Board and CECRI, supported technical training in various trades, besides helping in improving science education through science exhibition and modern science laboratories in schools. NRDC set up a training cum demonstration in various rural technologies from different CSIR laboratories. NRDC also helped in the transfer of a few technologies with minimum or no royalty for implemention in the villages. Helped in to development of electronic teachnig acid.
