WEST BENGAL VOLUNTARY HEALTH ASSOCIATION Major Activities and Achivements

West Bengal Voluntary Health Association (WBVHA) is a state-level health care NGO network to reach primary health care and family welfare services to the poorest section of the people who are underprivileged and in distressed condition. WBVHA works through local grass-root level NGOs with active involvement and participation of community at large. Starting from 8th July, 1974, WBVHA has gained its experience of more than 33 years. More than 350 grass-root NGOs spread across the state are associated with WBVHA in effective implementation of various health and social welfare projects in promotion of Basic Health Care Services, Reproductive & Child Health Care, AYUSH, Arsenic Mitigation and many other areas. WBVHA believes in “Working together and adding values to life.” WBVHA has its membership in the Steering Committee of Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal, State Population Commission, Govt. of West Bengal, District PNDT Committee of South 24 Parganas and Howrah and District Health Committee Purulia and Darjeeling to assist and strengthen the state level as well as district level health care programmes. WBVHA is also a member of Strategic Planning cell of DHFW, Govt. of West Bengal and Health Sector Reform Cell, West Bengal. WBVHA Expertise • Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) involving community people in implementing the project activities, learning success and failures, taking appropriate initiatives. • Participatory Planning for Monitoring and Evaluation • Capacity Building of NGO Personnel in project management • Facilitating partner organisation in PME system development • Project Appraisal, Need-based Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation • Training of grass root level health workers on Community Health Care • Training of doctors on Rational Use of Medicine • Training of local practitioners on AYUSH • Facilitating in District Health Plan • Community Based Disaster Mitigation • Midline Assessment of HIV/AIDS projects on behalf of West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society, Govt. of West Bengal. • Project Evalutation • Draft Development Plan on Livelihood and Poverty Alleviation, Local Economic Development, Health Care Service Development and Improvement and Primary Education Improvement under KUSP for 2007-11 for Municipality and Municipal Corporation. • Facilitation Community Development Medicinal Unit (CDMU) – low-cost essential and rational medicine supply services in West Bengal and Orissa.
