Major Activities and Achivements

At Abhipraay, we believe that education is indeed the silver bullet for tackling most of the social issues. India has possibly the largest number of active non-government, not-for-profit organizations in the world. But still we do not see a considerable change in spite of the large number of active NGOs involved in social welfare. We believe that instead of starting big, each one of us can make a difference by taking a small step. Small time localized contributions from our volunteers have the biggest potential to make an impact if community is involved as a whole. That is why we have started taking our own first small step: teaching underprivileged children from localities near us. A small list of our "local classes": 1. Vasant Vatika Morning Batch (8:00 AM- 9:00 AM, 7 days a week) 2. Vasant Vatika Evening Batch (4:00 PM- 5:00 PM, 7 days a week) 3. Saket (3PM-4PM) 4. Computer classes at Vasant Kunj (every Sunday 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) Abhipraay is also interacting with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for adoption and development of a primary school in South Delhi by leveraging the initiative started by SDMC inviting private NGO operators to improve government run schools. Abhipraay is working on a plan to reduce road traffic accidents using a combination of crowdsourcing and technology. We have already met and got an approval from the Gurgaon Traffic Commissioner Bharti Arora and started the development of a pilot project in Gurgaon. We are in the advanced stage of discussions with the Delhi Traffic Police. Our plan is to spread to top five cities within 3 years. Here are some more details on this project: Problem Roads are now the biggest killer of young people over the age of 10. With road traffic deaths constituting a global epidemic has reached crisis proportions. Road traffic accidents, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are the second major cause of death in the world and India holds the dubious distinction of registering the highest number of road traffic accidents globally. During the year 2011, there were around 4.98 lakh road accidents, which killed 1.42 lakh people and injured more than 5 lakh persons, many of whom are disabled for rest of their lives. These numbers translate into one road accident every minute, and one road accident death in less than four minutes. Solution Our solution will support creating a social web platform, mobile apps and a rating system based on an algorithm which uses crowd sourced data to address rampant traffic violations and inculcate road sense amongst drivers in crowded Indian cities. Data collected will be analyzed to create a deterrent system and the platform will lead to a three-five fold increase in enforcement resulting in a proportional decrease in violations and accidents. This solution will also help improve transparency, facilitate easy challan (ticket) management and has an in-built system to create a strong deterrence which discourages drivers to commit traffic violations.
