Origin : AFARM was born out of an acute need for an Apex Institution to co-ordinate efforts of Non Government Organizations (NGOs) in their tasks of providing Drinking water and agricultural extension services to villages in drought affected Maharashtra. It was one of the first organizations to operate as an Apex institution, in the country. Vision : Provide a forum for interaction amongst voluntary organisations (VOs) and other funding and developmental organizations, including the Government for sustainable development of the society. Mission : Build the capacity of VOs and their staff/ volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of Voluntary Sector. Goals : Promotion of Voluntary efforts in the field of Natural Resource Development, Human Resource Development and Socio-Economic Development of down-trodden and Community Development. Promote and support co-ordination of the programs of the Voluntary agencies with plans of Government in above mentioned areas in the State of Maharashtra. Major Thurst Areas Networking: Liasoning, coordination & provide forum for interaction amongst the member. Natural Resource Management Technical support & advisory services for planning & implementation of watershed, rainwater harvesting, agriculture development projects & implementation of pilots. Human Resource Development: AFARM conducts short as well as long duration training programs for capacity building of Voluntary organizations, CBO’s, Govt. officials engaged in Rural Development. AFARM has pool of internal and external resource persons for these training programmes. Monitoring and Evaluation: AFARM undertakes Monitoring and Evaluation assignments for State, National and International organizations including Govt. Departments. Studies and Research: AFARM conducts studies and research on its own for evolving and developing programs for the benefits of its members and also for the various National and International organization. Publications: Development of 32 user-friendly manuals, booklets, handbooks, video films and posters in local language. Viz.
