Major Activities and Achivements

Action for Social Advancement is a not for profit Indian Non Governmental Organization, set up in 1996 by a group of development professionals. ASAs approach to development is firmly founded upon participatory action at the community level. At the heart of the organization is the aim of developing livelihood security, which is facilitated by an intensive participatory process of natural resources management and local institutional development. Particular emphasis is placed upon the poor and women. ASAs Core Programme Areas include Land, Water & Agriculture Productivity Enhancement; Agribusiness promotion for small and marginal farmers; Micro finance through Self Help Groups and Research, Training and consultancy. ASA works in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. ASA is perhaps the single largest NGO in Central India working in the field of Natural Resources Management. ASA has demonstrated several effective replicable models in the area of natural resource based livelihood and won several appreciations including, India NGO Award in 2008 by Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation and Resource Alliance. ASA is a role model for many aspiring development sector professionals.
