All Kerala Orphans Welfare Association (AKOWA) is a national based grass root, non-governmental, secular and charitable voluntary organization registered under the Societies Act XII of 1955. the Society was established with a vision to cater to the developmental needs of tribal people, destitute, weaker sections, small and marginal farmers, woman and children if the area. Ever since its origin in 1987, AKOWA has been keen on promoting the fundamental requirements of the people of the target area. A great extent of multi phased welfare and development activities has taken place in AKOWA, in which formal education for children from weaker, backward and minority section of families, social welfare activities, water harvesting, water management, organic family, agro industry, cultivation and marketing of tribal produce, spice crops a and herbal/indigenous medicine, low cost technology transfer, promotion of IT literacy, physical and mental health care, training, IG programmes, promotion of eco friendly tribal, farm and herbal tourism , rehabilitation of distressed etc., are now being given great emphasis. What we visualize is a qualitative change in the educational system, health care, living standard, water management, land use pattern and farming practices of the area. AKOWA is the recipient of various awards for its outstanding contributions in rural development and social welfare activities including the Kerala State Award for The Best Tourism friendly NGO (2008) by department of tourism, Government of Kerala, the best out standing youth organisation (1997) by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Ministry of HRD, Government of India, the Best voluntary Organisation of the year (2006-07) by chukkupallom Grama Panchayat, Department of local self Government, Government of Kerala etc., And its founder, guide and chief functionary Dr.V. Sajikumar has been honoured with a large number of international, national and regional Awards and appreciations for his outstanding and praiseworthy contributions for the society. The vision of the organisation is to reach the unreachable living in the lowest strata of the society. The various own going projects of AKOWA are : a) Environmental Awareness Campaign b) Training formal and non-formal education c) Social welfare activities d) agriculture projects in collaboration with NAFED, NABARD, CAPART etc., e) Tribal programmes f) water management and roof water harvesting g) tourism promotion activities h) rehabilitation programmes i) health and counselling j) low cost nursery k) afforestation l) bio-gass plant m)women empowerment and formation of SHGs m) cultural programmes etc., All Kerala Orphans Welfare Association (‘Orphans’ we mean will who are socially and economically poor, weaker, backward and distressed in the society) by its more than two decades of devoted service achieved to implement many fruitful and result oriented projects successfully for the genegal community.
