Major Activities and Achivements

Ashray Sewa Sanstha(A.S.S.) is a Non-Government Organization working in the field of Health, Nutrition and Family Planning.Its endeavor is to uplift the lower strata of the society specially the Scheduled castes and tribes fom the village level by extending its helping hand in providing the avilable government facilities to the last man in the society. Brief on some major activities : 1. As a preliminary initiative Mobile health care for scheduled caste and bakward caste was undertaken in 87 villages of Sakaldiha Block Chandauli District. This Programme was designed to create an awareness sanitation and personal hygiene. To prvide this education to the rural illiterate poor, mobile health teams were sent to villages through health commities formed at the village panchayat level. The rural masses were emphasized the need of personal hygiene,maternal and child health care with a special mention and emphasis on the care of expectant mothers, practice of safe delivery, breast feeding practice, vacination to the mother and immunization against important communicable to childreen diseases. Stress was also laid on basic education to the female masses of the village, which would be a very powerful tool for the better implementation of the programmes at the grassroots. 2. Camp activites were undertaker, such as [a] breast feeding week, [b] flood relief camp, [c] Hepatitis-B immunization camp, [d] skin camp, [e] eye camp. 3. Health Mela under the auspices of the Family Health Awarness Drive by CAPART(Central Zone) Lucknow and Health Department a huge Health Mela was held in Chandauli on 20th and 21st April 2001, which was attended by more than 10,000 people who increased their awareness about various important health issues taken up through Health mela stalls. The health message wre propagated through posters, pamplets, models, banner and interpersonal channel of communication. A Souvenior of Health Mela was also published on this ocassion. 4. Promotion of family welfare and nutritional programme through community based programme was carried out under the auspices of CAPART, Lucknow in 9 sub-centres (about 30 villages) of Chandauli District. The main objective achieved by this study was creating awareness in village people through trained Voluntary Health Link Groups at the gramsabha level (GHLGs). This group facilitated the dissesmination of knowledge on RCH and Family welfare issues.In this connection village level programme were organized through Mobile Clinics, which provided the treatment of minor ailments at their door steps and complicated cases were referred to PHC, CHC, District Hospital and Medical College Hospital, BHU, Keeping in mind the concept of regionalization of health services.
