Major Activities and Achivements

The society has implemented a project on conservation of indigenous native fodder species in Kangeyam tract of Erode district funded by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), New Delhi, at a budget of Rs 5.0 lacs. It is a UNDP GEF Small Grant Programme. The impact of the programme result in doubling of the cattle population in project area. Another project implemented is on conservation of Bio Diversity and Bio Resources for environment safety funded by the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Chennai at a budget of Rs 2.0 Lacs. In this project 60 teachers in 20 schools of Erode district were trained on bio diversity and in turn 1000 students by eminent scholars on bio diversity. An exhibition on bio diversity was conducted where students displayed their exhibits and prizes were awarded for the best exhibits by the Chief Educational Officer, Erode. The students were also taken on tour to Western Ghats to study Forest Eco System. Bio diversity clubs were formed in 20 schools to carry out various activities on bio diversity to save the environment from pollution. There is a very good awareness created among the students, parents and the public. The society has also conducted training programme and PRA exercises under National Water shed Development programme for rain fed areas in Kangeyam Taluk. The society has also organized Maize development programme in collaboration with State Bank of India in Bhavani Taluk in an area of 1000 hectares by integrating loan, technologies, inputs and insurance with marketing buy back arrangements. It was a new crop introduction scheme and as a result the area of maize crop now is increased to 6000 hectares and the farmers get good income. The society used to organize mega AGRI exhibitions once in two years for the benefit of farmers in and around the district. The society has conducted number of seminars on hi tech agriculture, demonstrations and field days for the benefit of the members and the farmers. Apart from the projects society has also done many social service programmes. Rendered financial assistance to physically challenged, mentally retarded children and Service to blind children at Blind School, Perundurai. Assistance to Aged Home at Thindal and orphanage at Chinniyampalayam. Society has planted coconut seedlings in Adi Dravidar colonies at Modakuruchi. Donated sewing machines to SHG ladies at Nathagoundampalayam.
