FOUNDATION FOR ECOLOGICAL SECURITY Major Activities and Achivements

The Foundation a.) Works towards the ecological restoration and conservation of land and water resources, in conserving the uplands and other eco-fragile, degraded and marginalized zones of the country and to set in place the processes of coordinated human effort and governance. b.) Collaborates with a range of democratic village institutions, their federal bodies, and Civil Society Organizations as are in our opinion, set up through initiatives that are ecologically enlightened and sustainable as well as socially and economically equitable; c.) Strives to ensure the ecological integrity of all such efforts by working, as far as possible, with entire landscapes, and with all the interrelated communities within it, through a range of arrangements on their natural resources including Commons, Public or Private lands. We presently work in 1402 villages in 26 districts bringing about one hundred thousand hectares of forestlands, revenue wastelands and Panchayat grazing lands across six States of India under community protection. The major achievements in past few years have been a.) In 2008, the Chairperson of FES, Dr. Amrita Patel was awarded the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar. b.) The organisation was elected as the GEF Regional Focal Point South Asia in 2007. c.) Organizations holds Special Consultative Status with UNECOSOC. d.) Nominated as Members of the Working Group on Forests for the Environment and Forests Sector and Working Group on Public-Private Partnerships, constituted by the Planning Commission for the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-12). e.) FES Rajasthan awarded as Best NGO for its work on ecological regeneration f.) FES is also chosen as Regional Support Organization for NABARD in Andhra Pradesh g.) FES, Orissa named as master trainer for the Green Corps Programme
