Major Activities/Achievement of the Mahavir Singh Memorial Trust: Established on 28th November 1992 in the memory of great Freedom Fighter Late Mahavir Singh (1907-1992), the Trust has been continuously working to achieve its cherished goal of socio-economic and educational development of the masses since its inception. The major activities and achievements of the trust are as follows: (1) Since its inception in Nov. 1992, the Trust has been engaged in the education of children from deprived sections, health services for the poor, repair of village link roads, cleaning of water bodies (ponds) and free distribution of blankets to the poor and old. (2) Year 1995-96: Implementation of Village Irrigation project with the help of “Sir Dorabji Tata Trust” Bombay (Mumbai). (3) Year 1996 to 2001: Starting of “Non-formal Education Programme(NFE)’ for the children from the deprived section by the Trust from its own resources in 1996. Subsequently, the NFE programme was supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, with Grants-in-Aid for 25 NFE centers in in Phulparas and Ghoghardiha blocks of Madhubani district since April 1, 1997. The programme continued till the year 2001. The Trust has been able to successfully educate more than 1100 children through NFE programme. The Trust has also been able to get a large numbers of such students admitted to higher classes in formal schools, a true achievement in itself . (4) Organized Environment Awareness Programmes since 1995 onward. (5) Year 2003 to 2006: Successfully implemented Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) with Grant-in Aid from CAPART, a Govt. of India agency , which successfully covered rural irrigation and sanitation programmes through deep tube-wells, low-coat latrines and drinking water through hand pumps for the villages of Madhubani district. (6) Training to the weavers (2002-2003) with the help of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. (7) AIDS awareness camp for villagers. (8) Regular free Health Camps and distribution of free medicines to the villagers, esp. the poor sections. (9) Training camp for village youth on education, health, organic farming, wormy-compost making and advanced fishery methods. (10) Since 2006: the Trust got the honour of running the “Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya” at Lokhi Block (Madhubani District) with the help of Bihar Shiksha Pariyojna, Patna, (Govt. of Bihar) in the year 2006. It has been a great success with 6 of our students winning gold medals at state level competition and many prizes at district level. (11) Since 2005: Formation of about 250 Self-Help Groups(SHGs) of the villagers from the below- poverty line esp. of women, for their empowerment and improving their livelihood and economic conditions with the help of DRDA(Govt. of Bihar) in Darbhanga district. Our efforts have received appreciation from the different agencies.
