AchieveMents: Bala Vishwanath Kethar is a Bharatanatya Dancer and Choreographer. She was initiated into the classical art, at a very tender age, by Guru Smt. Rajeswari Sainath, of Hyderabad. She has also undergone special training in Jathi and Laya, under the famous Mridangam Vidwan, Sri. Karaikkudi R Mani Iyer. She potrays Pandanallur style of Bharathanatyam.
At present, she is the Director of Nilalaya Nritya Kendra, Tumkur. She has performed in major centres like Madras Music Academy, Mylapore Fine Arts, Puri Beach Festival, Kalidas Samaroh Nagpur, Nada Mandapa, Mysore and foreign centres in Brazil, Nepal etc. The Govt. of Karnataka awarded her with Zilla Rajyotsava Prashasthi.
Bala was awarded the Scholarship to Young Artistes in Bharathanatyam Dance by Ministry of Culture, New Delhi in the year 2000-01. She performed the Rangapravesha of her three students Priya Bharadwaj, Mamatha Hebbar and Smitha Rani at Dr. Gubbi Veeranna Kalakshetra, Tumkur in 2003.
Bala has choreographed dance ballets Durga Charitham, Gopalam Bhajare, Dasavatharam and Venkateshwara Vaibhavam. Bala performed Vachana Vaibhava, a dance drama based on the vachanas during Centenary Celebrations of Sri Sri Shiva Kumara Swamiji at Siddaganga Mutt, Tumkur in the presence of Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil, President of India in 2009. She also performed Vachanas in Nritya Roopaka during Lakshadeepothsava at Yediyur.
She performed a ballet Andal Nrityanjali sponsored by TVS Electronics, at the holy shrine of Sri Devarayana Durga, Tumkur and potrayed Andals divine activities and her union with Lord Ranganananda.
Doordarshan Bangalore celebrated their Golden Function Madura Madura Ve Manjula Gaana at Birla Auditorium, S.I.T College, Tumkur in 2009. Bala had an unique opportunity to present Bharathanatyam Dance for three songs. Her dance was well appreciated with a live replay by DD Bangalore Kendra throughout India and abroad.
Bala was a Judge for Tha Ka Dhi Mi Tha programme in Jaya TV, a Jury member in Halcyon 2011, Sri Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur and Chief Guest at Saroj Madhu Kala Utsav, Mangalore in 2011.
She performed a fund raising dance, for the building of Sri.Nimishambal Temple, Tumkur. She performed with her students, in Swarna Karnataka Janapada Jatre, Hampi Utsav, Jenkar Utsav, Davengere Utsav, Kudala Sangama Festival, Tourism Festival at Chennai etc. Recently she participated at Devaram festival organized by Narada Gana Sabha and Sri Ramalingar Manram, Chennai. She was fortunate to offer her dance with her disciples at the feet of Lord Nataraja at Natyanjali festival at Chidambaram on 24th Feb 2012.
She is equally adept in the art of Nattuvangam. The renowned art critic Subbudu showered praises on her in The Statesman New Delhi.
She coaches dance to visually impaired pupils of Sri Siddaganga Mutt, Tumkur. She has a concern for society. She assists Bharathi Stree Samaja, Tumkur in running twelve Creches, for poor children, from backward areas.
She is a cultural ambassador, with a social outlook.
