Salaam Baalak Trust Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: New Delhi

Operational States: DELHI

AchieveMents: Salaam Baalak Trust has completed twenty five years of service to street children in Delhi. From 3 staff and 25 children on a balcony of the Ground Reserve Police at the New Delhi Railway station, we have now grown to over 150 staff, providing support services in Delhi & the NCR region through our 24centres- including five shelter homes, and 17 day centres. In the year 2013-14, we have been able to touch and care for 6203 vulnerable children. The children have blossomed into fine young adults. Our children are our pride... our inspiration. Our children have been our inspiration. With the dedicated efforts of the staff, we have successfully given street children an opportunity to realise their dreams of a secure and happy life. We have 2 boys who are successful engineers, 3 who have completed their Masters in Arts program, 5 who have won scholarships for advanced programs to American Universities, 16 in an Australian affiliated University and many more who are pursuing their academic career in school and colleges across India. Our young people have become successful photographers, choreographers, actors, dancers, writers and film makers as well as work in corporate houses including, Coca Cola, Pizza Hut, DSC and media houses like Midi Tech and Teamwork. Chota Salim starred in the Oscar nominated short film – Little Terrorist.Vicky was among four young photographers to collate the re-building of World Trade Centre. Children who have grown up in the SBT family are our best ambassadors. Some of helped their families back home- building houses for their parents, educating younger siblings, arranging for marriages of their sisters. Some have found life partners and settled into happy matrimony. Many have donated back to the Trust and support skill building of younger children.
