AHMEDABAD STUDY ACTION GROUP Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: Ahmadabad

Operational States: GUJARAT

AchieveMents: CHILDLINE is a nationwide emergency helpline for children in distress; India’s first 24-hour helpline reaching out to the most marginalized children with the aim of providing rescue and relief, rehabilitation and repatriation, emotional sustenance and guidance. It is a project supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (GOI), working in partnership with state Governments, NGO’s, and International Organizations, the Corporate Sector, Concerned individuals and Children. CHILDLINE Ahmedabad was setup in the year 2000 and is being run by Ahmedabad Study Action Group since its inception; the nodal organization being Gujarat Vidyapith. Some of the activities are 1. Rescuing a child in the following process - The incoming call to 1098 is received by a trained team member who responds to the emergency depending on the nature of the call. In case the team member realizes he/she will not be able to reach the child in time, they seek assistance from a support organization in the vicinity of the caller. Emergency rescue is followed by conversing with the child to acquire information and linking him/her to medical help, shelter, rehabilitation, repatriation, protection from abuse or intensive counseling as per requirement. This process involves networking with existing organizations that provide specialized services. Every child rescued is pursued by the respective CHILDLINE team member for 6 months to ensure his/her wellbeing. 2. Creating awareness about Childline – ASAG has initiated a 2 year plan to cover all the slums in Ahmedabad to create awareness. 3. Building network of volunteers
