AchieveMents: GREEN Foundation works towards a well-preserved, diverse ecosystem that will sustain the rural livelihoods of the present generation without eroding the resource base of future. Its Mission is to conserve local seed diversity, promote an increased reliance on biodiversity based ecological agriculture; create gender-sensitive environment that enhances women leadership; contribute to livelihood by creating marketing value added products; connect the natural elements (soil, water, air, sunlight and seed) to ensure an abundance of nutritious food and otehr basic community seed; continue to nuture community participation and assist in building robust community organisation. GREEN Foundation works with over 2,400 women farmers in Kanakapura Taluk. Jandhanya Producer Federation and Companies, over 130 Self Help Groups, and 15 Enterprise Groups are formed. The producer institutions produce and market over 40 products in local and Bangalore markets. GREEN Foundation has published a number of articles and books related to biodiversity and ecological agriculture. Five key program areas that GREEN Foundation Works: 1. Conservation of agro-bio diversity through community seed banks, local seed savers, kitchen gardens 2. Promotion of sustainable agriculture and farming 3. Certifications for sustainable agriculture 4. Research and Communication - evolutionary plant breeding, molecular finger printing of local varieties 5. Policy engagement and networking GREEN Foundation plans to expand its operations within and beyond Karnataka in coming years. The Foundation has worked with a number of partners who have supported in various ways.
