AchieveMents: Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh-Paschim Shakha History of Establishment Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh (HKNS) dedicated to the Leprosy Work since 1926 as British Empire Leprosy Relief Association (BELRA). After Independence, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi change its name at First All India Leprosy Workers Conference held at Warda in the year 1948. Its Objects was In 1949 Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh registered under Act XXI of 1860 as All India Organization at New Delhi on 19th August 1949 and West Bengal Branch (Paschim Bangiya Shakha) established under Clause 2 of Memorandum of Sangh in the year 1949. The Name of this Branch is Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh-Paschim Bangiya Shaka(HKND-PBS). As per Constitutional set up His Excellency the Governor of West Bengal shall be the patron and Honââ¬â¢ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare of West Bengal the President of the Shakha Present Activities of Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh (Indian Leprosy Association): 1. Production and distribution of health education and publicity material on leprosy. 2. Production and distribution of leprosy seals to create awareness about leprosy and raising funds for their work through the sale of these seals. 3. Observance of Anti-Leprosy Day on the 30th January(Decease Anniversary Of Mahatma Gandhi ) every year to create mass awareness about leprosy. His Excellency Governor of West Bengal Inaugurates the Seal Sale Program with buying Seal of Rs.1000/-. 4. Conducting training courses for Rural and Municipal Health Workers on Leprosy Diagnosis and Treatment. 5. Organizing the Leprosy Workers Conference and District Leprosy Workers Conferences in Collaboration State Government machinery. 6. Providing assistance to District Branchs and leprosy patients. 7. Conducting Disability Prevention and Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR) training for Para Medical Worker for providing better service to the Leprosy Victims. 8. Conducting Survey Program to detect Leprosy Patient and referred the suspected patient at Block/Primary Health Center. Page 1 Major achievements of Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh-Paschim Bangiya Shakha 1. In 1988 HKNS-PBS lunch the ââ¬ÅPunarbasan Prakalpaââ¬Â ( Rehabilitation Project ) at Bisnupur of Bankura District of West Bengal, with the Help of Social Welfare Department . Government of India. The object was to Rehabilitate the person with former leprosy patient, most of them are detached from their home, some are partially deformities causes by leprosy. HKNS-PBS set up a vocational training center where the said candidate trained up with tailoring, Carpentries, Pigeree, Poultry, Goatery, Agriculture etc. The Training was Six Months Course. The project was successful, we help many of our trainee to receive government support to arrange their bread and butter after completion of training. Some trainees were placed in some local industries. Through this process many leprosy victims were in main streamed. We trained there 660 number of people. 2. In 1988 We launched the Survey Education and Treatment (SET) program, which was a part of National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP), Program was included Survey, Detection, and Referred to Local Hospital and then follow up. As a part of this program we our dedicated workers render the service of Prevention Of Impairment Deformities (POID)[Currently name of POID is Disability Prevention And Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR)]. Now the SET program is now renamed as National Leprosy Eradication Program, 2013. The Program is running in District of West Medinipur and Birbhum of West Bengal. 3. In 1990 HKNS-PBS launched the mobile treatment center with our ambulance van to reach to deformities patient to provide better service to leprosy sufferer. Currently a highly sophisticated Medical Van donated by State Bank of India is operating in the project. 4. In 2008 HKNS-PBS provide capacity building training to 814 KMC Health workers and 636 Rural Medical Personal on Leprosy Diogenes and treatment. 5. In 2009 provide capacity building training to the Health Worker of Mahila Mondal Bikash Kendra at Manikpara Paschim Medinipur. 6. Our Organisation frequently organizes seminar on Leprosy. Where eminent personnel working Leprosy deliver their valuable speech.
