AchieveMents: Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI) was established in October 1972 as a result of the deliberations of Blood Donor Motivators who had assembled in Chandigarh for a conference on voluntary blood donation. The society was formed with the object of making safe blood available to every needy patient so that no one dies for want of blood.
Keeping in view the National Blood Policy, ISBTI carries out activities as stipulated in the National Guidelines for voluntary blood donation with:

not the patient should be waiting for the safe bloodââ¬Â
MISSION
ââ¬ÅTo achieve 100% Voluntary Blood Donation in the country and to attain Quality Standards in Blood Transfusion Servicesââ¬Â
OBJECTIVES
ââ¬Â¢ To create awareness of safe blood.
ââ¬Â¢ To create awareness of need to donate blood regularly.
ââ¬Â¢ To create awareness of Healthy Lifestyle and maintaining Hb levels.
ââ¬Â¢ To ensure availability of safe blood through voluntary blood donation.
ââ¬Â¢ To ensure safe blood transfusion services by clinicians in blood banks & hospitals.
ââ¬Â¢ To ensure quality collection, processing and storage of blood & blood components.
ââ¬Â¢ To create awareness of appropriate use of blood and blood components.
ââ¬Â¢ To ensure active participation of the community by motivating:
ïÆË People to become Blood Donors
ïÆË Blood Donors to become Motivators
ïÆË Motivators to become Camp Organizers
To address these issues, one of the activities undertaken by the ISBTI has been the organization of ââ¬ËTransconââ¬â¢, which is an annual conference that brings together experts from the field of Transfusion Medicine.
ââ¬ËTransconââ¬â¢ is a three-day programme that includes the following activities:
1. Preconference Workshops and CMEs
2. Scientific Sessions
3. Panel Discussions
4. Oral Research Papers and Poster Presentations
5. Case Reports
6. Medical Products Exhibition
7. ISBTI Annual Awards
8. ââ¬ËTransconââ¬â¢ Souvenir Book
Over the years, ââ¬ËTransconââ¬â¢ has become the most awaited annual event in Transfusion Medicine that gives participants a platform to exchange ideas, discover novel opportunities, reacquaint with colleagues, meet new friends, and broaden their knowledge so that the burning issues in the field of Transfusion Medicine are addressed.
ISBTI is operating at the National level through its Zonal Councils, State Chapters and vast network of Voluntary Blood Donors, Donor Motivators & Blood Donation Camp Organizers throughout the Country. From the learnings in the conference different state chapters organise different activities as given below:

Well indexed database of voluntary blood donors along with their success stories is maintained at the public portal www.bravoblooddonor.org. Society also maintains its website www.isbti.org.
All these activities have immensely contributed in carrying forward the voluntary blood donation movement and the objectives of the National Blood Policy.
