AchieveMents: 1. JK Samaj Kalyan Kendra was established iin May 1980 with the noble mission of helping and empowering the disabled poor children, particularly the hearing and speech impaired girls and boys of school going age through formal education and vocational training.
2. A Pre Primary School for Deaf and Dumb was inaugurated on 19 April 1981 in a small rented accomodation in a temple complex at Jammu to spearhead the main objective of the Organization.
3. This small school was raised to Secondary School level in stages in 1995-96 and Higher Secondary School level in 2012-13 and housed in a spacious 3-storey Evacuee Property Building got allotted on rent basis from J and K Govt in 1985.
4. The school is named as J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra Higher Secondary School For Hearing Handicapped with current strength of 102 students, 40 girls and 62 boys
5. The School is recognized by Govt. Of J and K and affiliated to Board of School Education Jammu.
6. It is the only such Institute in J and K State meant exclusively for HH category of Differently Abled children.
7. Education and Vocational Training in the School is totally FREE.
8. The resources for running the School are generated mainly through public donations with some grant-in-aid received from Social Welfare Deptt of J and K Govt.
9. Till date, more than 400 pass out students of SKK School have been provided educational and vocational training in various trades for their economic rehabilitation. 5 of our ex-students have entered into the Govt. service while most of others have established their own business.Some have got jobs in private sector.
10. The Organization has distributed more than 500 hearing aids through various Medical Health Camps organized in the rural areas. We have also provided business opportunities to the handicapped youths of other categories.
11. A notable project on low cost toilets was also successfully executed by the NGO in rural areas of Vijaypur Block.
