LITTLE THESPIAN Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: Kolkata

Operational States: WEST BENGAL

AchieveMents: All activities of Little Thespian are directly or indirectly related to the development of theatre art and how to take theatre to the masses. Over the years we have produced all forms of theatre be it realistic, classics, intimate, street, children,s theatre, story theatre, one-act-play, short skits etc. which bring to the forefront the various vices found in our society and make people sit up and take notice. All this we for this we have formulated a very well focused annual agenda where by have pledged to work for the development of theatre art by Producing Plays in Hindi/Urdu, Producing Story Theatre and Organizing Theatre workshop. Apart from this Little Thespian tries its level best to promote theatre in languages other than Hindi/Urdu. It has produced plays in Nepali (Raksi ko Srishti Karta & Hayavadana) and in Bengali (Shesher Raatri by Tagore) ACHIVEMENT: Our achivement lie in the fact that 1. we have created a wide circle of theatre audience which in todays time is totally unheard of, especially for Urdu/Hindi theatre in Kolkata. 2. In our own way we have been able to take theatre art to the masses. 3. the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India has recognized our effort and hard work and granted us a Salary Grant of ten Artistes, and two of our artists junior fellowship in the field of theatre. 4. Little Thespian has made its presence felt in all the major theatre festivals organized in India be it the festivals organized by the different zonal centres such as NZCC, WZCC, EZCC etc. or the festivals organized by NSD, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Nandikar Theatre Festival, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival etc. Little Thespian is not only concerned with the development of theatre it is also very much concerned with the enrichment of Urdu and Hindi literature. For this it translates/transliterates stories and plays from other language to Urdu and Hindi as the case may be.
