AchieveMents: Major Achievements of MAhila Janjati seawa Samiti Empowering women for better life style A majority of people in India especially women do not have a stable and secure way of making a living which enhance their vulnerability in the society. Through Swayam Siddha, SGSRY, NABARD and Bhoomi projects KSS has organized women particularly those belonging to marginalized Tharu tribe and minority by providing them a platform for capacity building and empowerment. KSS works within 86 villages of Sitarganj block. 2312 women are linked with 220 self help groups that have further federated to a strong self reliant community based organization. The Federation has been registered as an autonomous body under Uttarakhand self reliant cooperative act 2003. All the groups save money regularly, have a bank account and have been able to take bank loans. Through microfinance 456 members of 46 SHGs are associated with livelihood activities. Remaining SHGs are practicing inter loan for their requirement. At present time total saving is Rs. 46,56,540. Supporting Sustainable Livelihood Promotion Livelihood is not just about making a living. It is also about having reliable and permanent sources of food, income and employment. It encompasses such things as where and how people live, resource management, agriculture, access to and ownership of land, waged labor and how these are affected by inequality (especially for women) conflict, climate change and other natural disasters.
