AchieveMents: Mangalam has been registered under Society registration act 1860(21) in 1976 as well as registered under PwDs act 1995 and also registered with FCRA foreign contribution regulation act 1976. Mangalam has been serving the physically challenged for the last 40 years all over the country. So far more than 112000 beneficiaries have been helped, mostly by adopting camp approach in remote rural areas. Mangalam has held 1263 camps in rural and remote areas of 21 states of the country. So far the major source of funds has been government grant. Mangalam now wishes to expand its activities and also take advantage of CSR funding by corporate sector. This will give Mangalam stability in its activities and also enable it to widen the range of its operations. Mangalam is also empanelled with Tata Institute of Social Sciences National CSR Hub which will strengthen its financial base, which will go a long way in broadening its base among the poor, SC, ST and other backward classes who are in need of help. Mangalam has received the Best Institution Award from the President of India in 1990 and has been bestowed with several awards from the State Govt. in the year 1985-86, 1986-87 and 1987-88. In fact, the organization has been serving the Disabled even before the “World Disabled Day” was started by the United Nations in 1991. Mangalam adopts camp approach for field interventions. First of all, a detailed survey is conducted of all potential disabled beneficiaries in the rural area, where a camp is to be held. Subsequently, the beneficiaries are called to the centre, which has medical facilities (usually, a district hospital is utilized for this purpose). The individual beneficiaries are examined by competent doctors. In case, a corrective surgery is possible, it is performed. In cases where, artificial limbs, tricycles, other appliances are required, necessary measurements are taken. When the aids/appliances are ready, they are given to the beneficiaries with necessary instructions. Follow up camps are also organized to check on how the beneficiaries are doing.
