AchieveMents: The Micro Enterprises Development Co- Operative Society Ltd (M E D C S L) is a Community based organization of rural and urban slum women to promote household level micro-enterprises for sustainable livelihood of its members. The society came in to existence on 25-08-2009 and registered with the Deputy Registrar of Co- Operative Societies,Balasore Division of Odisha.
The Mission Of MEDCL is "Sustainable Livelihood for Rural Youth & Women Through Promotion Of Micro-Enterprise in Rural Areas". The long Term Vision is to develop a viable and effective model so that the micro-credit is used by the women for productive purposes thus there is a visible change in rural economy.
At present MEDCSL is functioning in 200 villages of three CD blocks of Balasore District i.e.Bahanaga ,remuna ,Balasore Sadar and 31 underprivileged slum areas of Balasore Municipality catering to the financial and livelihood need of 14,045women members.
Over the years we have been supported by N A B A R D,P R Y O G,BASIX ,and Indian Gramin services (I G S)for various development projects and financial services in rural areas.
During the last seven years the remarkable achievement of the cooperative society are as follows:
(i) 1,316 women SHGs are formed in rural and urban slums of Balasore district involving 14,445 women members.
(ii) 4,577 women S H G members are trained in S H G management and livelihood opportunities.
(iii) Rupees three crore savings generated by the SHG members
(iv) Rupees ten crore micro-credit loan was given to 10,000 women SHG members for farm based and non-farm income generation activities.
(v) 4,000 nos of rural livelihood models demonstrated such as dairy , Goatary, Poultry,Fishery etc. for hands-in-learning and scaling up by women S H G members.
(vi) Cooperative members were provided with social products such as water filter ,Solar Light ,smokeless chulla,sanitary napkins and health kits etc.
MEDCSL has awell equipped office in Balasore Town. The office is fully furnished and Computerized with five 3rd Generation Computers,Printers,Scanner,Photo Copier and Broadband internet Connections.
The total staff strength of MEDCSL as on 31st March 2016 is 42 of Which 27 (64.50%) are women.they are the grassroots Community level workers (Field Organizers)at the Villages /Ward and slums level who provide firsthand hand holding support to the women S H G members. Besides we have part-time experts on dairy,mushroom cultivation,food processing, woolen garments making and agarbati making who impart training to SHG members on specific trades.
