AchieveMents: National Award for Mobility India on its 20th Anniversary for ‘Outstanding Work in the Creation of Barrier Free Environment for Persons with Disabilities’ by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs, Government of India. Rehabilitation Services: Mobility India provides various developmental devices such as Standing Frame, Special Chair and Twin Device depending on the developmental status of children. These devices help aiding the functional development of children. The Assistive Devices, help the people improving their functional movements, reduce dependency on others for daily activities, access education, and income generation opportunities and lead a good quality of life. Mobility India’s Therapy services are targeted towards Children with Cerebral Palsy and Delayed Development (helping them to achieve developmental milestones), People with Diabetes, Stroke, Post-Polio Residual Paralysis, Spinal Cord Injury and other disabling conditions. Education & Training Programs: Various training provided at Mobility India are affiliated and recognized by: • Bachelors in Prosthetics & Orthotics • Diploma in Prosthetics & Orthotics • ISPO CAT II Certificate in Lower Limb Orthotics/Lower Limb Prosthetics • Certificate in Rehabilitation Therapy Mobility India also conducts short term courses on Wheelchair Service Provision as per WHO guidelines. The courses conducted are • Wheelchair Service Training Package-Basic Level • Wheelchair Service Training Package-Intermediate Level • Wheelchair Service Training Package-Manager Level • Wheelchair Orientation Programs in Academic Institutions Community Based Inclusive Development Programs: The scope of healthcare initiative includes awareness on health and disability issues & its management, conducting health camps, referral service for surgeries as well as provision of assistive devices & therapy services. Hygiene and sanitation also promoted through building accessible toilets. Mobility India promotes ‘Inclusive Education’ through spreading awareness in community, orienting the school management on how to include a child with disability, making the school premises accessible as well as imparting training through Community Education Centres established across our community project areas. Promoting livelihood opportunities for people with disabilities, family members through vocational trainings, setting up of income generation opportunities as well as wage and self-employment initiatives. People with disabilities become self-reliant and contributing members of the family and community, and lead good quality of life. Capacity Building & Partnership with Grassroot Organisations: From the inception, Mobility India has partnered with grassroot organisations in building their staff’s capacity, setting up of orthopaedic and physiotherapy facilities, provision of assistive devices. Over the years Mobility India has 150 partner organisations from South, East & North-Eastern States of India. Development & Promotion of Appropriate Technology: Development of Sustainable, Affordable and User-Friendly assistive devices has been at the core of Mobility India’s research and development activities. Unique Initiatives of Mobility India… The ‘Accessible Mobile Van’ is a unique and breakthrough initiative of Mobility India to ensure safe and accessible commute for PwDs, especially for wheelchair users. This initiative was launched in 2000, two vehicles have been specifically remodelled to suit needs of wheelchair users while considering their safety and comfort as well. Till date 2497 accessible trips have been provided and 1072 people benefitted.
