AchieveMents: The Mountain Childrens Foundation taps into the idealism and energy of children to transform their communities from within. We help young people establish village level childrens groups through which they build foundations of trust and work with their peers to be agents of change their communities. In the process they acquire leadership and communication skills, confidence, and a vision for a community built on inclusiveness, trust, and equality. It is an organic sustainable way to affect deep and lasting change. The MCF also advocates on behalf of including children in development activities at all levels of government and civil society. By building bridges between the young people and government officials, we help empower them to take ownership of identifying and addressing problems in their communities. The MCF has extended its reach across Uttarakhand with very little infrastructure by building a unique network of grassroots organization who provide local support for our activities and initiatives. The MCFs works with children on understanding child rights, child participation, child protection, the right to information, hygiene and sanitation, the role of children in disaster mitigation, birth registration and small ways in which the children can be change agents.
