AchieveMents: SASTRA University was established in the year 1984 as Shanmugha College of Engineering and conferred with Deemed University status during 2001 after it was recognised as a PG centre (1997), NBA Accredited (1997), Autonomous (1999), Recommended by AICTE (2000) and UGC (2001). SASTRA University is one among the 31 institutions ranked in the Times Higher Educationââ¬âWorld University Ranking, 2017. Amongst 31 Indian institutions, SASTRA is in the 20th position. In the QSââ¬âBRICS 2017 ranking, SASTRA University has been ranked among the top 250 institutions. National Assessment & Accreditation Council with the maximum ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ grade and a score of 3.54/4.00 making it the number one of its type in Tamil Nadu and amongst the top 10 in the country.
The University offers various UG, PG & Ph.D. programmes in Engineering, Science, Management, Law and Arts. Recognised as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation by the Government of India and with the support of funding agencies like DST, DBT, DRDO, ISRO, AYUSH, etc. and other private organisations, the research output of SASTRA has been progressively significant.
Since its inception in 1984, SASTRA has established various milestones ââ¬â AICTE approval (1993), PG Centre (1998), TIFAC-CORE Centre (1999), Autonomous status (2000), Deemed University (2001), various centres for teaching & research like Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre, Centre for Nanotechnology, Centre for Indian System of Medicine, National Facility in Robotics, Recognition as Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation, Teacher Education, Distance Education, Legal Education, Department of Sanskrit, Astrology, etc. (2001-2015) and each one of them accomplished after following the due process laid down by the respective statutory authorities.
SASTRA has established the Srinivasa Ramaujan Centre at Kumbakonam in 1999 and is recognised by MHRD as an off-campus centre. This centre has purchased the house of Mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and maintaining it as a monument and also has a museum on Ramanujan.
The admission system of SASTRA is transparent and based on merit and not a single rupee is collected as capitation fees or donation.
A strong collaborative relationship with top US universities like Harvard-MIT, Georgia Tech, etc., & many European and Asia-Pacific universities and with industry partners like TCS, IBM, Microsoft, TVS, etc. in the area of Research, Specialised Training and other development activities.
Interface with society is truly national, regional and local. Personal visits to Uttarakhand, Kashmir and other places during the times of natural disasters for relief distribution, Free formal & skill education and providing educational resources for socio-economically challenged, research to provide low cost solutions like healthcare diagnostics, water body cleaning agent, artificial skin are some socially relevant initiatives besides the various activities under the SCORE programme.
Efforts in propagating Indian Culture & Ethics have been significant. With courses on Indian Womanhood, Life & Message of Swami Vivekananda, Vedic Mathematics, Gandhian Studies, Rediscovery of India, Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, etc., Degree programmes in Astrology, Sanskrit, and Research initiatives in Legal Anthropology, Integrated Humanism, Vedanta, etc., SASTRAs efforts through its Department of Oriental Studies have shaped the minds and careers of its students and created positive impact amongst various concerned stakeholders.
SASTRA marches into its fourth decade with a committed management, qualified & dedicated faculty, youthful & bright students looking forward to a supporting ecosystem.
