AchieveMents: Umeed was born with a vision of reaching out to differently-abled children in our society , as well as to their families. ââ¬ÅDiffferently-abledââ¬Â children are often referred to as ââ¬Ådisabled,ââ¬Â ââ¬Åhandicapped,ââ¬Â ââ¬Åmentally-retarded,ââ¬Â or simply as ââ¬Åspecial-needs children.ââ¬Â Umeed provides quality intervention for these children while also promoting increased societal awareness of their needs and increased sensitivity toward those needs.
Umeed seeks to work towards a society which views each person as being of value and importance and to make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities as well as their families. Umeed provides quality intervention for these children while also promoting increased societal awareness and sensitivity towards their needs. The school seeks to build a society that cares equally for the needs and growth of each special child by admitting special children from all sections of society regardless of caste, creed, race, religion, economic and gender barriers.
Umeed Foundation has around 30 children including the school as well as outreach. We charge fee for the parents who can afford the same. The fee is charged so that Umeed is able to sustain its basic costs as this field involves lots of costing.
We also give education to the underprivileged section absolutely free.
We also promote girl child education from weaker section. About 14 girls from near slum area have been given dress, school bag and books. Everyday evening classes are held for them so as to educate them atleast that much so that they are able to take a small but respectable job for themselves.
The income that we receive is spent mainly on salaries of employees and consultants, developmental costs, maintenance, depreciation of furniture, electricity, the teaching learning materials that are bought for children etc.
Some Umeed kids have been integrated in highly reputed mainstream schools like The Heritage, G D Goenka, DAV Public School , HDFC School, DPS and Adharshila
The SAACAR unit children are taught vocational skills to lead an independent life. The achievement is that we have been able to reach out to many people through our products and create awareness about special needs.
Kids are trained in sports to actively participate in Special Olympics.
Various workshops by National and International speakers are conducted for parents as well as educators.
